Background & Description

Responsibilities

Build and execute social media strategy through competitive research, benchmarking, messaging and audience identification
Generate, edit, publish and share bi-monthly content (original text, images, video or HTML) that builds meaningful connections and encourages social media users, newspaper readers (and at times radio listeners and TV viewers) to take action on gender issues
Optimize Shirakat’sproject pages on the website, update website and electronically shared material to increase the visibility of the organisation’s social content
Capture and analyze the appropriate social data/metrics, film original content, edit, finalize and upload on social media, web TV and website
Development documentaries, video clips, photographs, promotional material, collecting or developing human stories, social media campaigns, etc to highlight successful women (including non-Muslim and differently abled) in non-traditional roles
Gather social development, humanitarian response and men and masculinities related insights and best practices, and then acting on the information
Enhance linkages with journalists on promoting gender equality and positive masculinities, providing relevant content to them intermittently;
Collaborate with other colleagues (Peace-building, Education and Sustainable Livelihoods) to coordinate actions for gender empowerment and positive masculinities
Work closely with ED to develop proposals and budgets as well write quality reports, and updates on project progress for submission to donors
Collaborate with EVAWG, IHI, HumAahung and other relevant organizations forums
Assist ED to undertake advocacy efforts related to gender justice with Government officials, members of Parliament and other relevant individuals
Liaise with and mobilize journalists to discuss gender issues (double burden, unattainable body ideals for women, traditional notions of economic reliance on men, ethics of retouched ads etc) and highlight success stories in Urdu and English newspapers and on media (TV, radio) channels
Be the focal person for linking Shirakat’s EU funded project women leaders with relevant organizations
Assist ED to maintain and further develop contacts with civil society actors, the Government and relevant international organizations/donors for enhanced visibility
Promote innovative gender empowerment approaches in programming (especially use of technology) and adapt value added and cost effective solutions for target beneficiaries
 

 

Requirements and Skills

Demonstrable interest in women’s rights and men and masculinities
Proven experience in photography, movie making, editing (from start to finish including concept development, design, editing, finalization)
Proven working experience in social media or related field
Excellent communication skills, including public speaking, writing, editing (photo/video/text), and presentation
Demonstrable social networking experience and social analytics tools knowledge
Some knowledge of web design, web development and SEO
Knowledge of online marketing and good understanding of major marketing channels
Positive attitude, detail and customer oriented with good multitasking and organizational ability
Fluency in English and Urdu
BS in Communications, Marketing, Business, New Media, Public Relations, Gender, Media and Culture,or a related field

Duration: 3 months with possibility of extension

Minimum Experience: A minimum of 3 - 5 years of professional experience with the media (with a focus on gender empowerment and/or human rights) at the national level in similar context is required. The following candidates who have significant experience with women’s leadership initiatives, engaging men and boys for gender justice, gender sensitive reporting and working with religious leaders for gender empowerment will be given preference.
