Background & Description

Job description:  The position holder will be a qualified Laboratory Technician based at BHU to conduct laboratory investigations/perform laboratory tests of patients as per advise of Female Medical Officer/Lady Health Visitors to facilitate diagnosis. In addition to this also teach LHVs, how to conduct basic laboratory investigations of a patient through RDT kits in case of an emergency. While also keep laboratory clean & tidy and update & maintain laboratory registers/data.

 

Responsibilities:

Perform routine laboratory investigations e.g. pregnancy confirmation test, urine R/E, Hemoglobin (Hb) level, blood glucose/sugar level, blood grouping etc;
Label specimens properly by writing the patient name and OPD register number;
Prepare findings report and share with FMO/LHV in order to determine the proper diagnosis, treatment or direction of further testing;
Keep laboratory clean and tidy and maintain the inventory of laboratory equipment and resources;
Set up and clean laboratory equipment, and check for any damages that needs to be reported and repaired;
Label all reagents/chemical bottles with their name, date of preparation and expiry,
Maintain the daily laboratory register and stock register for the minimum stock level of lab reagents as per need;
Prepare and share the weekly and monthly reports of laboratory investigations done, on regular basis with Female Medical Officer for onwards submission;
Update FMO on regular basis on the laboratory related issues;
Submit laboratory supply request to project office after formal approval of the FMO;
Conduct orientation session for LHVs, how to conduct laboratory investigation/perform test through RDT kit in case of an emergency;
 

 

 

 

 

Under the team spirit, works as a vital team member to achieve targets set under the project;
Follow proper chain of command and communication lines within the organization;
Carry out any other job related additional task (s) assigned by project manager or senior management.
 

 

 

 

 

Requirements and Skills

Qualifications and experience essential:

Ø  Diploma in Laboratory Technician from a recognized and reputed institute;

Ø  Significant experience in related role (at least 4 years);

Ø  Work experience in a similar role with an INGO (at least 2 years).

 

Desirable:

Ø  Local of KPK;

Ø  Familiar with local customs and culture;

Ø  Any additional training/diploma further received in related field;

Ø  Fluent in Pashto and also clearly speaking Urdu;

Education
