Description

The Information Society Innovation Fund (ISIF Asia) is a grants and awards program empowering communities in the Asia pacific region to research, design and implement Internet-based solutions for their own needs, placing particular emphasis on the positive role the Internet has in social and economic development in the region. ISIF Asia offers support through competitive grants and awards processes as well as offering support for a range of capacity building opportunities for selected recipients. Since 2008, ISIF Asia has supported 60 grants and 26 awards allocating over AUD 3.1 million to 86 innovative initiatives across 23 economies that focus on innovative access solutions, connectivity, education, health, localization, language preservation, freedom of expression, open data, disabilities, and more.

The Internet for Development Grants for Gender Empowerment & Innovation will be allocated to projects/organizations working to achieve gender equality on the Internet. USD 53,000 is available, as follows:

  • USD 30,000 scale-up grant for one existing project looking to expand,
  • USD 23,000 small grant for one new project.

Innovation and a development focus must be an integral part of the project proposal. Proposals must include an implementation component, a realistic timeframe and a detailed budget breakdown.

Proposals must be focused on one or more of the following areas:

  • Building advanced digital skills among women and girls (coding, network management and security, IPv6, big data, sensors, IoT, devices, machine learning, cloud computing);
  • Supporting women to get involved in network infrastructure deployment to expand Internet access and adoption;
  • Encouraging the participation of women in digital markets to support women’s economic empowerment as well as capacity building initiatives that support employment paths in the Internet industry;
  • Promoting the safe use of the Internet for women and girls
  • Defending women and girls rights online.

 

Eligibility

 

  • Project proposals and award nominations from Asia Pacific-based organizations will be considered.
  • Applications from public, private sector, academia (such as universities or research and development institutions), non-profit and social enterprises are welcome to all categories.
  • ISIF Asia will ONLY support initiatives managed by organizations based in the Asia Pacific region, with funds allocated to be invested within the Asia Pacific region, as described in the list of economies (mentioned below). ISIF Asia will consider regional diversity and balance when making final decisions.
