Child Rights Movement (CRM) – Punjab has held a meeting with Mr. Bilawal Bhutto Zardari (Chairman Pakistan People’s Party) today at Bilawal House in Lahore. The meeting had a one point agenda – Support for The National Commission on the Rights of Children Bill 2017. This bill is in the Senate (or upper house of the parliament of Pakistan). The CRM delegation sought PPP’s support for the passage of the bill in the Senate.
To the delight of the delegates, chairman PPP assured of his party’s full support for the passage of the bill from the Senate. He promised that he would direct senators of PPP to support the bill in the upper house.
It would be pertinent to mention here that National Assembly (or lower house of the parliament of Pakistan) has already passed this bill on February 1, 2017. If senate also passed this bill, it would need President’s assent to become an Act.
The delegation thanked the chairman PPP for his support. It included Ms Mumtaz Mughal from Aurat Foundation, Mr. Iftikhar Mubarak from Plan Pakistan among others.
