FDMA Initiative to enhance disaster resilience in FATA

Peshawar, November 21, 2017: A project to take initiative on disaster resilience in FATA was launched by CARE International in Pakistan, FATA Disaster Management Authority and Swiss Agency for Cooperation and Development. The project main focus to strengthen disaster management institutions, government departments, reconstruction and rehabilitation unit for enhancing and building resilience in FATA.

At the occasion the DG, FDMA said that the currently we are combating with several challenges including the resettlement of temporary displaced person and providing them basic necessities such as clean drinking water, food, shelter and health. The current analysis shows; Pakistan is one of the most vulnerable country towards climate change impacts. etc. Our main focus is to make communities more resilient toward shocks.

Our small efforts toward preparedness can make a huge difference on people lives. FDMA aim is to build resilient infrastructure and supporting communities in quick recovery that are affected from the militancy and natural disasters.

While sharing the role of CARE International in Pakistan, Ms. Ameena Ilahi, mentioned that from 2005 to 2016, CARE Pakistan has played a key role in responding to over 9 natural and human-made disasters, with various interventions aimed at providing emergency healthcare services that have transitioned into post-disaster development programs. CARE has provided $80 million for emergency relief and recover support to over 2.4 million people in four provinces- (KP, Baluchistan, Punjab and Sindh).

The Head of Humanitarian from SDC Ms. Franziska Voegtli, said that they are very much looking forward to see the success of this initiative and really appreciate FDMA cooperation for this partnership.

The secretary Law and order FATA Mr. Hassan Mehmood Yousafzai gave the concluding remarks and appreciated the FATA Disaster Management Authority, Swiss Agency development and Cooperation and CARE International for initiating a remarkable move for FATA resilience.
