Fellowship Overview

The Asia Global Fellows Program is an interdisciplinary global leadership development initiative for mid-career professionals with a strong interest and track record in public policy.

It aims to nurture future leaders and create influencers with a deeper understanding of global issues from Asian perspectives.

  • A stipend to help with living costs during the Program when Fellows are physically present in Hong Kong

Program Specifications

The Asia Global Fellows Program typically accepts up to 16 participants for each year. Based in Hong Kong, the interdisciplinary Program usually runs from August to November:

  • Lectures by Scholars and Seasoned Leaders: Lectures and discussion sessions by academic, policy, business and civil society leaders from Hong Kong and around the world.
  • Organization Visits and Networking Opportunities: Local visits to different organizations to interact with leaders.
  • Study Tours to Asian Capitals: Study trips to different cities in mainland China and/or other Asian cities to gain first-hand experience in Asian cultures and perspectives.
  • Leadership Skills Training: Training on a broad range of leadership skills by top professionals.
  • Knowledge Exchange with Hong Kong Community at Large: Ample opportunities to share knowledge and expertise through different platforms on and beyond the HKU campus.
  • Mentorship of HKU Undergraduates: Fellows will provide mentorship and career counselling to HKU undergraduates and host lectures and seminars for knowledge exchange.
  • Intra-Fellows Seminars: Sessions for mutual learning and exchange among fellows.
  • Policy Research: A policy research project on a topic of his/her choice is required of each fellow. Guidance will be provided.

Eligibility Criteria

They welcome applicants from around the world, regardless of race, gender or profession. For your application to be considered, you must:

  • Be a promising, mid-career professional with 8 to 25 years of working experience;
  • Be actively engaged in politics, policy-making, policy research, civil society, or business;
  • Have a special interest in the Asia Pacific and finding solutions to the challenges of the complex world;
  • Have demonstrated a strong capacity to make a positive impact on your organization, society, and the world.
  • Language Requirements: All activities of the AsiaGlobal Fellows Program will be conducted in English. You will need to have a high-level of English language proficiency in reading, writing, listening, and speaking.

Evaluation Criteria

During the evaluation period, shortlisted applicants will be notified by email to participate in an interview, either online or in-person.

Application Requirements

  • Recommendation Letters: Three independent recommendation letters must be submitted by your referees to support your application. They should be from individuals who are not relatives but who know you personally, and are familiar with your work and career trajectory to date.
  • Supporting Documents: Supporting documents will provide them with more data points on you and might strengthen your application. This includes, but not limited to, your resume as well as any citations and awards you might have received.
