Role overview
 

To serve as focal person for Education and Gender/ Women empowerment projects and contribute to the strategic development implementation and successful delivery of programme areas in order to optimize the contribution towards reducing poverty.

Requirements and Skills

Essentials:

Qualification

Masters in development studies, social sciences or related discipline

Excellent understanding of project cycle management tools to ensure effective planning, resourcing, implementation and review of programs and experience of organizational assessment, planning and review tools and processes.

Experience

Programme Development and Management -Education and Gender

Demonstrable skills and experience of working with NGO/ INGOs or donor agency with in field of Education and gender, strong project management experience in a complex project design and implementation.

Practical experience of applying development issues at a project or community level.

Able to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of development issues with experience and knowledge of the relevant program area.

Experience of managing donor projects with good understanding of donor guidelines.

Leadership and people management skills, experience of team management.

Experience of the financial management of budgets, including building a budget, monitoring and managing expenditure. Previous experience of having compiled financial reports.

Competent in Data usage: including speedy collation and analysis of complex and high volume data, using appropriate Information Technology packages where necessary.

Business Pursuit and Proposal Development
Proven experience of generating project concepts and report writing.

Communication Skills
Strong interpersonal skills and confidence in working in international settings. Proficiency in verbal and written English Language and the ability to articulate complex ideas in a simple format.

Desirable:

Knowledge of VSO’s vision, mission and values particularly in relation to the VSO capacity development approach through volunteer placements.

Understanding of key development issues in Pakistan, particularly in the area of inclusive education, youth engagement, civil society development, women participation and gender equity. Experience and knowledge of the country and region.

About Organization

Voluntary Service Overseas, VSO was set up in the UK in 1958. Today we work to improve education, health, livelihoods, gender and social inclusion and resilience in 24 countries across the globe. VSO believes that people are the primary agents of change. Volunteers, giving their professional expertise, serve marginalized communities in more than 20 countries across the world. They share their skills with carefully selected partner organisations: learning their assets, strengths and needs, developing solutions and supporting national volunteers to lead the change.

VSO Pakistan was established in 1987 with the support of the British Council and in 1991 started working independently. Four years later VSO signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Government of Pakistan, which was renewed in 2016 with MoI and EAD as per new INGO regulations enforced by the Government of Pakistan.

In Pakistan, VSO has engaged the skills and expertise of over 500 international volunteers and over 100 national volunteers, primarily to support initiatives in education, participation and governance, youth social cohesion and peace, health, resilience building, HIV and AIDS, and women empowerment. These experts in their fields have been placed with a diverse range of over 70 partner organisations across Pakistan.

Currently, VSO Pakistan envisions to present itself through its initiative as an organization which is able to reach the most marginalized primary actors for bringing a meaningful change in their lives through youth engagement, promoting social cohesion, women empowerment, secure livelihoods, resilience/disaster risk management and inclusive education programmes. Enabling us to promote gender equality a culture of inclusion, youth employment and enterprise, enhance voice and accountability and develop community resilience.
