Introduction: Based in Islamabad, The Institute of Development Research and Corresponding (IDRAC), is a social research, training and advocacy institute. Sustainable development, the Institute believes, cannot be realized without appropriate research, assessing the impact of development projects and making informed policy choices. The Institute envisions materializing sustained and equitable development by action research, policy dialogue, education, training, and extending advice and evidence-based interventions and advocacy recommendations.

Our intensive analytical skills, in-depth understanding and deep-rooted connection with local communities enable us not only for state of the art development and assessment of human rights, peace, democratization, and education projects. Rights-based theory of change remains at the heart of IDRAC’s trainings, advocacy, and assessment services.

IDRAC is one of the key stalwarts in trainings and impacts assessment studies in the field of education, peace, human rights, and democratization. Duties and Responsibilities:

Under the overall guidance of the Project Manager, the intern will support the implementation of the research activities, administrative tasks, field coordination and communication (email, telephonic and by post) with research partners and IDRAC’s field teams. Internee will also support web browsing for the collection of secondary data, developing research tools, data interpretation if and when required. Depending on the competencies and interests of the interns, assignments will include:

Research and Proposal Writing:

  • Support in writing consultancy proposals;
  • Facilitate in designing appropriate research methodologies;
  • Collect data if and when desired by or assigned by the Lead Researcher;
  • Document and analyze research data, as assigned by Lead Researcher;
  • Surf the web to collect and organize the relevant and required secondary data for particular research;
  • Develop diagrams, pie charts, graphs, and charts, as and if required;
  • Editing and formatting a document and/of the research report, if and when required;

Administrative Tasks:

  • Correspondence and communication including letters, emails or meetings in person;
  • Taking notes and developing meetings minutes if and when required;
  • Support in smooth implementation of activities in matters related traveling of field teams; training arrangements and coordination with partner organizations;
  • Responsibly and carefully handle relevant tasks as assigned by the head of IDRAC and particularly by the ‘Manager Projects’.

The interns are also expected to strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the development sector intervention as well as the research tools, frameworks, methods, and objectives by reading relevant materials and IDRAC’s publications.

Requirements and Skills
  • He/she should be Masters/Bachelor in development studies / social sciences/economics/anthropology or related fields.
  • Must have knowledge of basic computer application and MS office
  • Not necessary but working experience of SPSS and other data analysis software shall be considered an asset;
  • Basic understanding of humanitarian-response, human rights, peace, and social development context’;
  • Ability to work independently, the ability to take initiatives, and make decisions.
  • Effective communication skills to represent IDRAC at various levels/events;
  • Willing to travel for fieldwork in far and wide of the country;
