MALC provides free treatment services for Leprosy, TB, Blindness, and Mother & Child Health Care to poor communities in the slum areas of Karachi. We have also recently expanded our community-based development initiatives through our centres across the city, with a special focus on children with neurodevelopmental disabilities at our MRC Centre.

Additionally, MALC operates four (04) project schools in the suburbs of Karachi (Manghopir, Khamiso Goth, Adam Goth, and Gadap), and implements Mother and Child Health initiatives in two selected clinics.

Training in safeguarding and child protection is particularly essential for teachers and parents of children studying in marginalized areas across the city, as they may face heightened risks of neglect abuse, or exploitation due to socio-economic challenges. Strong awareness and clear protection practices help create a safe and nurturing environment where children can learn and grow without fear or harm. It is our firm belief that by empowering teachers and parents with the knowledge to identify, prevent, and respond to concerns, we are laying the foundation for healthy development and educational success. Furthermore, elements of mental health awareness will be incorporated throughout the training.

    Objective of the assignment

To provide Training in Safeguarding and Child Protection for up to 50 teachers, school staff, and parents from our project schools in Manghopir and Gadap.

    Expected Results/Deliverables:

    • Prepare and submit a work plan on the training outline, course content, handouts, and training schedule.
    • Training manual/guideline for participants.
    • Training reports on the successful completion of the training workshop.
    • Training end feedback forms from each participant.
    • Certificates to participants for successful participation in each workshop.
    • Final report on the implementation of the task.

    Ethical Considerations:

As a condition of entering into a consultancy agreement the consultant/firm must read MALC Safeguarding Policy and abide by the terms and conditions thereof.

    • Adapt training materials and delivery methods to be culturally appropriate and ensure that the content does not inadvertently offend or alienate participants.
    • Carefully design the training content to avoid triggering negative emotions or reinforcing harmful stereotypes, and provide a safe space for participants to express their concerns.
    • Ensure that all personal data and stories shared during the training are kept confidential and that participants are informed about how their information will be handled.
    • Obtain informed consent from all participants, ensuring they understand the topics being covered, especially when discussing sensitive subjects like child protection
    • Create an inclusive environment where everyone feels valued and respected, and ensure that training materials reflect diverse perspectives.
    • Use a trauma-informed approach that prioritizes the safety and well-being of participants, avoids re-traumatization, and provides access to support services if needed.
    • Encourage active participation and ensure that participants feel they have the autonomy to apply the skills and knowledge gained in their own contexts.
    • Be transparent about the goals, methods, and limitations of the training, and provide opportunities for participants to give feedback and voice concerns.
    • Obtain permission for the use of real-life cases, anonymize details to protect identities, and ensure that examples are used constructively to enhance learning, not to sensationalize or exploit.
