Introduction

AZAT FOUNDATION is a not for profit and non – governmental organization, established on 17th February 2003 by a group of young development Professionals, human rights activists, researchers, media professionals and political activists. AZAT FOUNDATION got registered under The Voluntary Social Welfare Agencies (Registration and Control) Ordinance, 1961 (Registration No. EDO-CD/30) on 2nd June, 2005. On 8th November, 2008 Azat Foundation got registered under Societies Act 1860.

AF is engaged in advocacy, campaigning, community mobilization, research, networking, challenging anti poor policies, plans and actions at local, national and international level with different coalitions. AF also works for development of unprivileged and less developed communities and responses disasters in disaster prone areas to make sure all human exercise equal rights and get equal opportunities of development.

Since its inception AF has worked to ensure a peaceful and secure environment within communities. AF's goal is to eliminate poverty and violence from society by means of encouraging human rights and civic education culture. AF has been in the forefront of organization's calling for the integration of civic education and human rights concepts into the entire society; not only at the local level but also at the wider Provincial Level.

To develop a trans-cultural model of the “right to health” approach and commitment to social justice and change in the region, by examining health in the context of people’s life –moving beyond the individualistic approach to include extended family, social, cultural, political, religious and economic conditions.  The model is based on analyzing the links between health and human rights focusing on the community approach and development. Such a model has been developed through capacity building, professional advancement, professional credentialing, and the ability to act as an ethical change agents in a constantly changing environment by empowering family and community initiatives in alliance with existing community resources.

AF has distinguished for its leading position in the region as an organization of excellence in capacity building, professional practice and of its critical analysis of the linkage between basic health and human rights. AF is proactive and innovative in efforts to alleviate inequalities in health, education and women rights making family empowerment more accessible and culturally acceptable while providing each individual with dignified service. We had gained distinction for our critical analysis of the contextual linkage between health and human rights, and contribute creatively to the local, regional and global right to health approach movement and prevention of torture.

AF has successfully implemented a number of studies and training programs in the fields of human rights, democracy, health and civic education.

AF believes that health professionals have a strong role in building bridges for peace, democracy and human rights through community empowerments and professional’s developments. We extend our hands to all individuals and nations who are interested on human rights, dignity and respect regardless of their race, color, religious background and political affiliations.
