Introduction

District Development Association-DDA is an indigenous non-government organization, working as a Humanitarian cum Development organization since 1992 in Mirpurkhas, Umerkot and Tharparkar Sindh Pakistan.

DDA has been actively engaged in imparting multisectoral complex projects focused on Education, School WASH, Community WASH, Rainwater Harvesting, Menstrual Hygiene Management, FNS, Livelihood Development, Alternate Energy Solutions, Climate Change Adoption and Humanitarian Response.

The story of District Development Association (DDA) starts in 1992 and registered with Directorate Voluntary Social Welfare Agencies under (Registration and Control) Ordinance 1961 (XLVI of 1961) of Government of Sindh, when young development professionals, social workers and human right activist saw a gap in the rural& urban development and started thinking to maintains a unique bridge of friendship and co-operation between urban Sindh and remote villages of the Tharparkar, Umerkot, Badin and Mirpurkhas Districts.

Since 1992 District Development Association-DDA now works with over 1289 villages, through 1289 VDOs across all districts.

Besides, the DDA is very vast experience in imparting humanitarian response indifferent type of disasters specially ‘Earthquake, Cyclone, Drought, Fire Incidents, Flood and Heavy Rains’ projects. Very specifically, DDA has the experience of FIs and NFIs distribution in emergencies, Cash Transfer and Voucher Programs, Provision of Safe Drinking Water, Rural Sanitation Facilities, Community/School Hygiene Education, Age and Disability Inclusion, Rainwater Harvesting Initiatives in Tharparkar region.

During Cyclone 1999, Earthquake 2000, Flooding of 2010, Heavy Rains 2011, Drought Situations 2013 to 2016, DDA has worked with various international donors and UN Agencies including IOM, CWS-P/A, HOPE, UNICEF, HELP, USAID, The Asia Foundation, USAID-SGAFP, UNESCO, UNDP, UNESCO-Mala Fund and Government of Sindh including CDP-P&C, Women Development Department-Sindh, Sindh Education Foundation-SEF and Education Department.
