It was in the early eighties that under the guidance of their teachers a group of volunteer medical students started a project for impoverished communities in the slum areas of Karachi, to provide them with primary health care at their doorsteps with a special emphasis on immunization.
Over the years the program gradually extended its outreach and transformed into an organization in 1990, which was registered with Government Department of Social Welfare in 1991.
Today HELP is providing primary health care facilities through its network of community health workers, 3 fixed health facilities, a fully equipped maternal and child health centre and mobile health teams in various slum areas of Karachi and Shahdapur. Over the years through its three pre-primary schools and home schools located in Katchi abadies of Karachi HELP has been able to bring a change in the lives of hundreds of students.
There is a concentrated effort through the CSOs towards development in social and education sectors. The Establishment has recognized the need to work with Civil Society organizations. In fact the CSO sector is now developing a significant voice, the voice of the actual people of Pakistan.
Our beloved Pakistan is very much in the news globally for the wrong reasons. But we are resilient hard working people who are also optimistic. Let us pray for peace in our troubled land and space for children to grow and learn the value of living by giving to others.
