Karakorum Associates for Educational and Economic Development -KAEED

KAEED is a non for profit Non Governmental Organization (NGO). This organization is registered under the Societies Registration Act XXI 1860. It was established in 2010 and registered with the Joint Stock Companies of the Government of Gilgit Baltistan. Initially the organization was established with the support of some family members. Gradually it grew in to a highly effective service provider due to inclusion of so many professionals in the organization as members and consultants.

The organizations leadership and management is structured in way that support the developmental activities without suffering others’ activities. There is a General Body consisting of 13 members (Male 8, Female 5). In the Executive Body there are seven members (Male 3, Women 4). It is ever first organization of this region headed by a young lady. To deal the professional matters of the organization there is a Management Committee consisting six members with an equal participation of men and women.

Our initial constituency is the mountain communities of Pakistan which are most susceptible to natural disasters, political conflicts, extreme poverty and perpetual human suffering. Due to their remote location, these communities are typically marginalized from the rest of the country and lack the resources and support to even meet basic human needs. Most mountain communities have access to local natural resources but lack the knowledge, skills and resources to develop them into sustainable income generating opportunities. Due to lack of awareness these communities do not benefit from these resources. Nutrition deficiency, dealing ECCD, inclusion of gender, disables and marginalized segments in the mainstreaming, sustainable utilization of natural resources, enterprise development, ensuring good governance in local organizations and addressing development need through Public Private Partnership are the most pressing issues of these communities, which is caused by Lack of awareness and capacity. By providing awareness and training these fields and natural resource utilization, these communities can be empowered to permanently break the cycle of poverty and join the global community as contributing citizens for generations to come.

Focusing on creating sustainable opportunities for the long term, the organization’s underlying philosophy is to (i) develop human capital with inclusiveness of all segments to prepare them for their own social and economic development through local resource mobilization (ii) introduce grass root community development programs, modeled on a global standard, that begin to lay an ethical foundation to improve state of human right related matters with the right set of humanistic democratic principles; and (iii) engage with those communities which are willing to take ownership to ensure sustainable participation in socio-economic development.
