The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) is an independent humanitarian organization helping displaced people in different countries globally. We deliver high-quality aid where needs are greatest and we respond to emergencies quickly. When we started our relief efforts, humanitarian needs were critical- They still are – and we’re still there, protecting displaced people and supporting them as they build a new future. Today, we work in both new and protracted crises across 30 countries and our main field operations globally are under Education, Food Security, Shelter, legal assistance and water, hygiene & sanitation.
NRC started working in Pakistan in 2001, assisting the displaced population, host communities and Afghan refugees. NRC in Pakistan also responded to the major emergencies including 2005 earthquake, 2010, 2011 and 2012 floods etc. NRC has the following main objectives specific to Pakistan for 2017 dependent on required Government permission & approved donor funds:
Children and youth affected by displacement can exercise their rights to quality and relevant educational opportunities in a safe learning environment.
People have improved food security and livelihoods opportunities.
Improve access to water and sanitation facilities
