Pakistan Relief was established in 2003. It is a volunteer-based Humanitarian Assistance Division of Wilderness Pakistan which is a non profit non governmental organization. Our influence and effectiveness is dependent upon our members, volunteers, donors, and beneficiaries. We work for all people, without any consideration of race, creed or religion.
Back in 1992, a bunch of young students started traveling to some of the remotest parts of Pakistan for hiking, trekking camping etc. Whilst exploring those exotic valleys, enchanting plains and calm deserts, they became aware of the pains and the miseries of the inhabitants. They observed that natives have no access to health facilities, education or clean drinking water. In case of sickness, inhabitants of these remote areas likely do not have a single Aspirin tablet. Initially, our members collected medicines from their families and friends for distribution in the remote areas during their next visit. The enormous need and the immense gratification of the poor patients had two amazing results:
1) Inhabitants in remote areas started a new journey- a journey towards peace, prosperity and pleasure;
2) Pakistan Relief was born. No one even guessed that a small group of students, once just keen on recreational activities, will divert its course from personal recreation to humanitarian service!
Because humanitarian assistance is a vast field, we decided to focus upon a neglected sector called “Emergency Response”. This deficiency has left our nation deficient in the essential preparedness required to cope with natural disasters. This need was particularly evident when our Emergency Response Team went to Bam, Iran to conduct Earthquake Relief Operation. After this experience, we knew that we must activate ourselves and our nation to have comprehensive First Aid Training. This awakening helped us to appear, fully prepared, on the disaster scene in the far flung hilly areas of NWFP, Azad Jammu and Kashmir on the 8th October 2005. Our Emergency Response teams were dropped into the mountains by the Army Aviation helicopters. We often teamed with foreign NGOs. Collectively we treated more than 36,000 patients. Hostile weather conditions and difficult terrain made this operation difficult and dangerous. However, our experience in such terrain and preparation increased survival rates of the victims and reduced the risk to our volunteers.
In the past, as the good will ambassadors of Pakistan, we have responded in neighboring countries like Iran, Sri Lanka and Indonesia. In the future we wish to help people in need around the world. Our devastating earthquake, the most terrible disaster of the country’s history, provided our organization with the vision to prepare for the next disaster, wherever it may be.
Vision
The gap between the rich and poor is increasing day by day, globally. Malnutrition, disease, conflict and illiteracy are a daily reality for tens of millions.
But it isn't just chance or bad luck that keeps people trapped in bitter, unrelenting poverty. It's man-made factors like a glaringly unjust global trade system, a debt burden so great that it suffocates any chance of recovery, lack of knowledge, means of sustainable livelihoods and insufficient and ineffective aid.
As a human being we all have equal rights and deserve honor and dignity. The social injustice and inequality causes civil unrest, and frustration then illiteracy and unemployment further enhance the prevailing problems. The equal opportunities to education, health and livelihoods may help bringing a positive change in the society.
Mission
Pakistan Relief is dedicated to promoting peace, alleviating poverty and eradicating suffering of those in need.
The peace, prosperity and pleasure are common and basic needs of human beings. Pakistan Relief is endeavoring to achieve such goals through its small scale programs at grass-root level. We believe dedication, devotion and determination can make a real difference.
We work for all people without consideration of any race, creed or religion.
