Plan International

Founded in 1937, Plan is one of the world’s oldest and largest child-centred community development organisations. Plan works with 50 developing countries across Africa, Asia and the Americas to promote child rights and lift millions of children out of poverty. In 2012 Plan worked with 84 million children in 90,131 communities. Plan is independent, with no religious, political or governmental affiliations.

Plan Pakistan’s operations commenced in 1997 and the organisation currently implements programmes and campaigns in 21 districts in all 5 provinces of Pakistan using the Child Centered Community Development (CCCD) approach.

Plan International currently works in communities in the districts of Chakwal, Vehari, Muzaffargarh, Layyah, Rajanpur, Thatta, Khairpur, Gilgit, Baltistan, Ziarat and in the squatter settlements of Islamabad. Plan’s presence at the grassroots level in these communities helps to ensure that our work is responsive to local needs and builds capacity in community organizing and child-centered community development planning. Additionally, Plan Pakistan is currently implementing a rural sanitation program in 31 flood affected districts using the CLTS approach. Plan Pakistan works directly as well as in partnership with other organizations and alliances to enhance the effectiveness of its programs.

Plan Pakistan is focused on a number of key areas affecting the welfare of children, including: protecting and promoting health; access to quality education; livelihood opportunities for poor and vulnerable households; and promoting child rights and gender equality. Plan Pakistan works closely with communities and local authorities in all districts, sub-districts and union councils where they operate, including collaborating with other CBOs and national and international bodies.
