Accurately measuring the impact of development interventions on the life and conditions of affected and underprivileged communities has been a continuous and ongoing challenge for most development practitioners and researchers alike. With aid workers focusing primarily on project specific activities and outputs, the longer-term impact of programs is often sidelined, leaving impact assumptions and pre-conditions hardly tested. Even when a change can be measured, attribution of the change to the project interventions becomes difficult to prove and justify. Moreover, applying quality standards and impact management in humanitarian responses pose their own challenges. COVID-19 related restrictions have further proved that traditional tools and approaches for data collection cannot be easily applied and used.
This training will focus on impact measurement in a holistic manner. It will cover the complete project life cycle; from program design and its articulation/documentation to implementation, monitoring, impact assessment and learning, ensuring that the expected impact is effectively achieved, measured and documented. The application and use of Information Technology (IT) based data collection and analysis tools for this purpose will also be covered in this training.
The training methodology will include practical exercises based on real life projects/programs (but considering social distancing). These will be interspersed with lectures by the external trainer and experience sharing by prominent leaders from the development and humanitarian sector. Post-training coaching and mentoring support will be provided to 30% of participant organizations.
The training will specifically focus on:
