Fellowship Overview

The Rotary International is seeking applications for its Rotary Peace Fellowship Program to support leaders with work experience in peace and development.

The fellowship focuses on peace and conflict resolution, international development, cross-cultural understanding, leadership development, research-informed learning, field-based study, social change initiatives, community engagement, and sustained collaboration with regional and global peacebuilding networks.

They offer two pathways under the Rotary Peace Fellowship. The master’s degree programs support academically strong early-career candidates who pursue intensive study in peace and development at premier universities. These programs run for 15 to 24 months and include a two- to three-month, self-designed field study that complements classroom learning with practical experience.

They also offer a professional development certificate program designed for working professionals with significant experience in peace and development. This one-year blended program emphasizes practical skills, applied learning, and leadership growth. Participants complete field studies and design and implement a social change initiative aligned with peacebuilding priorities in the program region.

They seek candidates with a strong academic background, a bachelor’s degree in a related field, and demonstrated commitment to peace and development through professional, academic, or community service. Ideal applicants show leadership potential, the ability to engage in rigorous reading and research, and readiness to contribute actively within a diverse cohort. They value candidates who have a record of achievement in peacebuilding and the capacity for future growth and influence as leaders after completing the fellowship.

Eligibility requirements differ by program. Master’s candidates must be proficient in English, hold a bachelor’s degree, and have at least three years of full-time relevant experience in peace or development work, with a minimum three-year gap between completion of their most recent academic degree and the intended start date. Certificate candidates must also be proficient in English, hold a bachelor’s degree, and have at least five years of full-time relevant experience, along with a clear social change initiative aligned with Rotary’s mission.

They encourage applications from people with disabilities and individuals from diverse backgrounds, providing reasonable accommodations as needed. They are not open to active Rotary members, Rotary employees, or certain close relatives of Rotary members, while Rotaract members who are not Rotary members remain eligible.

Applications are screened for eligibility and qualifications, followed by detailed review by the Rotary Peace Centers Committee and partner universities. Selection is based on eligibility, English proficiency, commitment to peace and development, leadership potential, academic compatibility, alignment with fellowship objectives, and, for certificate candidates, the feasibility and impact of the proposed social change initiative. Selected candidates are notified in November and then apply separately for admission to the host university.

The application period is open and applicants must submit complete, original materials including required documents and statements in English. Selected fellows are expected to remain engaged after the program by sharing their work, maintaining regional connections with peace fellows, and sustaining strong relationships with Rotary members.
