The New York Fellowship provides a six-month immersive experience in the United States for artists, scholars, and arts professionals from Asia to broaden their perspectives and develop their artistic practices.
The New York Fellowship is designed to foster cross-cultural understanding and artistic growth by bringing together a diverse cohort of artists, scholars, and arts professionals from across Asia for a six-month residency in the United States. The program offers participants a rare opportunity to step away from their daily routines and immerse themselves in the vibrant cultural landscape of New York City, engaging with peers from various disciplines and backgrounds.
Fellows are encouraged to explore the city’s rich arts scene, attend performances, exhibitions, and workshops, and participate in group activities organized by ACC, such as visits to cultural institutions and gatherings with local alumni and artists. The fellowship emphasizes peer learning, reflection, and meaningful exchange, providing individualized programmatic and logistical support to help fellows achieve their objectives and connect with resources in New York.
Each New York Fellow receives a $38,000 USD grant for the six-month period, which includes a $3,000 USD advance for travel-related expenses such as the DS-160 visa application fee and airfare. ACC covers certain pre-arrival costs, including a $220 USD SEVIS fee, mandatory travel health insurance (estimated at $675–$800 USD), and, if selected, housing at International House (estimated at $19,400–$20,600 USD for six months), all of which are deducted from the grant. Fellows can expect to receive between $10,000 and $31,100 USD after arrival, depending on their insurance rate and housing selection.
The fellowship requires a full six-month commitment during one of two cohort periods: January 1–June 30, 2028 or July 1–December 31, 2028. Fellows must arrive in the U.S. by the first week of the program and remain until the last week of the program period. International travel during the fellowship is discouraged except for emergencies or short, approved career-related trips.
Applicants must be citizens or legal permanent residents of an ACC-eligible country or region in Asia (excluding U.S. citizens and permanent residents), be at least 21 years old by the start of the fellowship, and be confident in using English for daily communication. Fellows are not permitted to pursue paid work, university coursework, or teaching during the fellowship and must not have previously received a New York Fellowship.
