Background
  • HRCP is seeking a programme associate based in Lahore to support the implementation of a 36-month project aimed at strengthening the protection and exercise of the right to freedom of expression in Pakistan as a right that is indivisible from, and essential to, the enjoyment of all other human rights.

    Project information
    The project focuses on strengthening the capacities of journalists and human rights defenders through training, mentorship, peer-learning networks and tech-facilitated learning. It also supports coordinated advocacy for freedom of expression, stronger human rights information systems, research on the state of human rights (including freedom of religion or belief and civic spaces), and engagement with policymakers to improve protections for civic freedoms across Pakistan.

    Scope of work
    Broadly, the programme associate’s responsibilities will include:

    (a) supporting the day-to-day implementation of project activities in line with the approved logframe and workplan;

    (b) helping the project manager coordinate with project partners and resource persons;

    (c) supporting the organization of workshops, consultations, meetings and monitoring visits;

    (d) contributing to research, documentation and drafting of project outputs, including reports and policy briefs;

    (e) assisting in monitoring, evaluation and learning activities; and (f) supporting timely narrative and financial reporting, donor visibility, safeguarding and compliance requirements.

    Terms and conditions
    This position is offered on an initial one-year contract, renewable annually subject to satisfactory performance and the project’s requirements. As the position is project-funded, employment will not necessarily extend beyond the project’s closing date.

Requirements
    • Candidates should have at least a four-year bachelor’s degree in the social sciences, law or a related field.
    • Those with at least one year's experience of working on donor-funded human rights, rule-of-law or governance projects may be given preference.
    • Strong documentation, communication and coordination skills are essential.
    • Candidates should be willing to travel to project sites within Pakistan as required.
