The Italian Academy Fellowship Program, offered by the Italian Academy for Advanced Studies at Columbia University, provides fellowships for postdoctoral, mid-career, and senior scholars to pursue innovative interdisciplinary research in the humanities, sciences, and social sciences at Columbia’s New York campus.
The multidisciplinary Fellowship Program is described as the heart of the Italian Academy’s work, continuing its long-standing encouragement of intellectual exchange across epistemological boundaries.
Dedicated fellowships include awards in developmental and adolescent psychiatry, the application of AI tools and models in the early detection of pancreatic cancer, and architectural history and preservation; proposals beyond these areas are also welcome.
Fellows receive a full-time salary, health benefits, and an office; the minimum annual salary is in the range of $74,279–$104,099.
Fellowship periods are available for Fall 2027, Spring 2028, or the full academic year, which runs from September 15, 2027, to April 30, 2028; fellows are expected to be in residence for one or two academic semesters.
Applicants of any nationality may apply at the postdoctoral or faculty level, from postdoctoral researchers to senior scholars, and must have a PhD by June 30, 2027.
Former Italian Academy fellows and Columbia University professors are not eligible, and fellows may not hold concurrent fellowships or teach during their residency.
