Fellowship Overview
Applications are now open for the Fall 2027 and Spring 2028 Human Rights Advocates Program (HRAP), providing experienced grassroots human rights activists working with NGOs an opportunity to strengthen their knowledge and continue advancing human rights within their communities.
The Program focuses on sexual and gender-based violence, domestic violence, minority rights, LGBTQI+ rights, labor rights, Indigenous peoples’ rights, migration, health, social exclusion, environmental justice, disability rights, sexual and reproductive health and rights, corporate social accountability, and human rights abuses in the fisheries sector.
The Human Rights Advocates Program is designed for human rights activists working with nongovernmental organizations, including lawyers, journalists, doctors, teachers, social workers, community organizers and other professionals engaged in human rights advocacy.
Applications are welcomed from qualified human rights advocates from regions around the world. Participants are selected based on their previous human rights work experience, commitment to the human rights field and demonstrated ability to undertake graduate-level studies.
Applicants must be actively working at the grassroots level. Those holding full-time or part-time jobs while pursuing their advocacy work are preferred.
Full-time students and government officials are not eligible for consideration. Academics will also not be considered under the Program.
Applicants from high-income countries are generally not eligible, except those who represent marginalized communities.
Fluency in English is required. Preference is given to applicants who have not previously had opportunities to travel and study internationally. A bachelor’s degree is preferred but is not mandatory.
