Shirkat Gah - Women's Resource Centre

As one of Pakistan’s leading women’s rights organisations, Shirkat Gah (SG) has established itself as a key resource centre for advocacy, capacity building, knowledge production, and dissemination. It also houses historical archives documenting women’s and minorities’ rights and laws from the country’s early years.

Today, SG works in 23 districts through offices in Lahore, Karachi, Quetta, and Peshawar, collaborating with Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) to advance gender equality and social justice. The organisation is frequently invited to sit on government committees for policy formulation and implementation, and has a strong record of shaping national, regional, and international agendas. SG also enjoys UN ECOSOC consultative status.

SG has played a leading role in monitoring and reporting on Pakistan’s commitments under international frameworks, including CEDAW, the Beijing Platform for Action, the International Conference on Population and Development, the Millennium Development Goals, and the Universal Periodic Review.

At the national and international levels, SG partners with academia, research institutions, and civil society groups. It is represented in numerous international bodies, including the IUCN (World Conservation Union), serves as the Asia Regional Coordination Office for the global network Women Living Under Muslim Laws (WLUML), and sits on the steering committees of several initiatives to promote gender equality.
