Background
  • Better Governance and Business Environment (BGBE)

    The Multi-Donor Action “EU Support to Better Governance and Business Environment in Pakistan” is jointly co-financed by the European Union and the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and implemented by GIZ as part of the BMZ-funded project “Promotion of Improvement of Labour, Social and Environmental Standards in Pakistan’s Textile Industry (TextILES II)”.

    The project aims to boost the competitiveness of Pakistan export-oriented SMEs through green and inclusive growth. It focuses on strengthening policy frameworks, supporting SME-led green transitions particularly those involving women and facilitating targeted green investments via public-private dialogue platforms.

    Learning Areas

    • Develop a comprehensive understanding of policy frameworks, governance structures, and lean enforcement mechanisms for labour and environmental compliance, including risk-based approaches and institutional coordination.
    • Strengthen capacity to collect, manage, analyse, and validate data through Management Information Systems (MIS) to support evidence-based decision-making and regulatory oversight.
    • Build skills in compliance mapping, gap analysis, and systems assessment to enhance policy implementation and monitoring effectiveness.
    • Gain practical exposure to key compliance domains such as occupational safety and health (OSH), environmental standards, resource efficiency, and workplace well-being within a governance context.
    • Enhance understanding of Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) systems, including data organization, performance tracking, and impact assessment for policy and programme interventions.
    • Develop competencies in documenting good practices, case studies, and success stories related to governance improvements, compliance systems, and sustainable practices.
    • Gain exposure to the design and facilitation of capacity-building initiatives, including trainings, awareness sessions, and stakeholder engagement workshops.
    • Strengthen skills in documentation and reporting, including preparation of analytical reports, meeting minutes, policy briefs, and knowledge products.
    • Learn to track implementation progress of policy initiatives and enforcement mechanisms, documenting lessons learned and identifying areas for improvement.
    • Build capacity in stakeholder coordination, including compiling feedback, preparing progress updates, and supporting high-quality reporting and presentations for decision-makers.
    • Gain exposure to multi-stakeholder coordination, including engagement with Labour Departments, Environmental Protection Agencies (EPA), PESSI/SESSI, and industry representatives.
    • Learn knowledge management systems, ensuring proper documentation and accessibility of project information.
    • Develop administrative and coordination skills required for effective project implementation.
    • Develop general administrative and technical skills required for project management and implementation.
    • Learn to prepare a comprehensive internship report summarizing experiences, insights, and learning outcomes at the end of the assignment.
Requirements
    • Graduates who finished their degree within the last 12 months, or in the process of completion (minimum four years of higher education including Bachelors’ or Masters’) in Public Policy, Management, or a related field
    • Either no comparable experience in the related field or not more than 11 months of internship / job experience after graduation.
