White Ribbon Pakistan plans to hold a ‘Million Men March’ in 50 districts of Pakistan on 24th Noveber – just a day before the annual 16 days of activism campaign starts, which is run every year from 25th November (the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women), to 10 December (Human Rights Day). This Million Men March would be held in collaboration with National Commission on the Status of Women and Two provincial commissions on the status of women namely Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
They intend to mobilize one million men simultaneously in more than 50 districts across the country. These groups of men belonging to diverse tiers of the society including CBO’s (Community based organizations), representatives of corporate organizations, students of educational institutes along with district administration will perform the activities at any prominent place in their respective district.
White Ribbon Pakistan is Men’s Movement for Ending Violence Against Women. In a patriarchal setting like Pakistan, it aims to create awareness, particularly among men and boys and generally in the public at large, regarding injustice towards women and violation of women’s rights. The goal is establishment of a society where men and women live in harmony, with mutual respect and peace fulfilling each other’s rights with women feeling safe and secure within or outside their homes.
Note: Pink Ribbon is seeking partner organizations (CBOs/NGOs) in various districts to make it happen. If you are running a group of citizens (men, women, youth), CBO or NGO, and are interested in joining hands with Pink Ribbon, you should contact them at conference@whiteribbon.org.pk or on this number: 042-35883570 by August 18, 2017.
