Nayyab Ali – Co-chairperson of EVAW/G Alliance

July 2019, Islamabad: Ms Nayyab Ali has been elected new co-chairperson of the National Chapter of the Ending Violence against Women/Girls Alliance for a two-year term. She is the first tans-woman to have been elected to co-chair such a forum. She was elected unopposed to replace the outgoing co-chairperson Anbreen Ajaib on completion of her two-year term.

Ms Nayyab Ali, 26, is one of the leading Human rights defenders in Pakistan. She is the first trans-woman in the Muslim world to contest for national polls with political affiliation in Pakistan. She contested General Elections from NA 142 (district Okara in Punjab).

She has remained part of many initiatives on protection of transgender population. She was part of Transgender Task Force (Special Committee formed by Federal Ombudsman for the review & Recommendation on Transgender Rights Protection bill). She was the member of Former Chief Justice of Pakistan Special committee on the status of Transgender CNIC Registration. She remained co-opted member of National Commission on the Status of Women (NCSW) in 2018.

She holds the portfolio of National Coordinator of All Pakistan Transgender Election Network. She has worked for the political empowerment of transgender community in Pakistan. She founded Pakistan’s first transgender school for transgender community in Okara, which could not be sustained due to financial constraints.

She contributed to the drafting of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for police department on dealing with issues of transgender community. Th e SOPs will be notified through the national guidelines by Ministry of Human Rights (MoHR).
