Child Right Movement Pakistan – a network of about 500 organizations – celebrated the Universal Children’s Day 2019 and 30 years of United Nations Convention on the Right of the Child (UNCRC) at F-9 Park, Islamabad. More than 600 children from different schools, orphanages and slum areas of the twin cities participated in the event. Different fun and recreational activities were designed for children. Parents, community members, parliamentarians, and celebrities were also present there to celebrate this day.

Yasmeen Rashid

Parliamentary Secretary Health Yasmeen Rashid, while addressing the participants, said that Pakistan was the sixth and first Muslim country that signed the UNCRC. The current government is sensitized and dedicated to ensuring the rights of each and every child as described in UNCRC.

Executive Director SPARC Sajjad Cheema said that child rights are not properly protected due to lack of budgetary allocation. He requested to allocate sufficient budget for child rights so that children of Pakistan also avail equal rights as defined in UNCRC.

National Coordinator Child Rights Movement Pakistan Mamtaz Gohar demanded proper implementation of laws. Due to lack of implementation, the cases of child rights violations are increasing day by day.

Executive Director UGOOD, Ishtiaq Gillani said that Universal Children’s Day offers each of us an inspirational entry-point to advocate, promote and celebrate children’s rights, translating into dialogues and actions that will build a better world for children.

Vice-Captain Pakistan National Women Football team and Captain Pakistan Army Malika-e-Noor said that today I am so happy to celebrate Universal Children Day with the orphan marginalized children of Pakistan.

It was a full day event and the main aim of the event was to raise awareness and spread knowledge of what children face in Pakistan and globally. There are millions of children who don’t have access to education, healthcare or opportunities. See the slideshow below for more photos
